The tutoring industry has a Tinder problem.<\/span><\/h3>\n

Open any of the major platforms and the experience is almost identical to dating app logic. You scroll through profiles. You filter by price, subject, availability. You look at ratings, which tell you almost nothing, because no one leaves a bad review when they’ve already moved on. You pick someone. You swipe.<\/span><\/p>\n

Then the platform steps back and wishes you luck.<\/span><\/p>\n

What happens next is entirely on you. Whether the teacher is any good. Whether the match is right. Whether your child is actually learning or just sitting through sessions and producing the reassuring appearance of progress. No one at the platform is checking. No one has any skin in the game once the booking is confirmed.<\/span><\/p>\n

This is the Tinder problem: the platform has successfully monetised the introduction and has zero stake in the outcome.<\/span><\/h4>\n

I am not saying the tutors on those platforms are bad people. Some of them are excellent. But excellent at what, exactly? Excellent at showing up. Excellent at delivering their particular version of a subject. Whether they are excellent for your child with your child’s specific gaps and history and way of learning that nobody knows, including them, because nobody asked.<\/span><\/p>\n

At Young Scholarz<\/a>, I ask.<\/span><\/h3>\n

Before a match is made, we have a proper conversation. Not a form. A conversation. We find out who this student is not just what grade they are in and which exam they are sitting, but what has and hasn’t worked before, where their confidence sits, what kind of presence a teacher needs to have to reach them. And then we match deliberately, from a network of educators we know personally.<\/span><\/p>\n

Is this slower? Yes. Is it more expensive? Yes. Does it mean you will probably stop looking after the first match rather than cycling through six teachers in a year? Also yes.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Tinder model optimises for volume. We optimise for fit.<\/span><\/p>\n
